‘Village Voice’ Examines Reality-Porn Collision

Since at least 2006, GPTimes has chronicled the ever-increasing collisions between reality-teevee and all-male porn. The VillageVoice.com has an essay by Jim Halterman titled “Reality-TV Porn” that went earlier today and briefly examines the phenomenon. Among those interviewed: Dustin Zito, formerly of Fratpad and now enjoying his 15 minutes via MTV‘s The Real World (speaking of which, where’s all the fuss about The Real World: Sydney castmate Dunbar Flinn doing straight porn?); Mikey Verdugo, whose sole hardcore bondage scene in 1996 came to light when he was cast on HGTV‘s Design Star and cost him his day job as a police officer; Steven Daigle, whose fame as a skin stud has now eclipsed his post-Big Brother blip on the pop-culture radar. “More and more reality stars are attempting to cash in on their fame by doing porn,” Mr. Halterman writes. Well, I’m not so sure about that. He doesn’t mention Chris Crocker (scroll down or see the link below) but as the lines blur, I have no doubt we’ll see more guys follow Mr. Daigle’s path. What we’ve seen instead are lots and lots and lots of reality television performers who have some kind of erotic work on their resume. Case in point: Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth, twice a cast member on Survivor, who performed hardcore hetero sex on Playboy TV‘s reality series Foursome, and is now rumored to be on location filming his third season. I would disagree with the Village Voice that we’re seeing more people cross genres, from reality to porn, but increasingly adult work is becoming less of an obstacle to overcome and more along the lines of a stepping-stone.
