Blast from ‘Cocktails’ Past

Talent manager David Forest of The Premiere Artists sent around this flyer for a July 2006 edition of Cocktails with the Stars. The long-running meet-and-greet at Micky’s nightclub in West Hollywood was being emceed at the time by Jason Sechrest. All four studs are long gone from the scene, although Vince Rockland does turn up now and again. Chad Hunt is retired after a prolific career, although I guess he could mount a comeback (so to speak). Vin Marco and Tony Da Vinci were both flashes in the pan. Mr. Forest will be back for more ‘Cocktails’ tonight—with promoter-host Scotty B.—to tout his latest discovery, Tigris Wood (see the link below). Tonight is also the stud’s 23rd birthday. Planet Porn: Viral video star, internet sensation and studpup idol Chris Crocker Tweeted this photo earlier with the caption, “Gearing up for the porno!” I wrote about this last month (see the link below); scuttlebutt says he’ll make his erotic debut for Chi Chi LaRue and Channel 1 Releasing. I was asked about it last week when I guested on the “The Derek & Romaine Show.” Truthfully, I’m just not entirely convinced this isn’t a clever manipulation. Call it a hunch. Still, Mr. Crocker is slim and adorable and he had a very young, largely female and quite rabid fan base. Ask most porn studios to describe their customer base and you will not hear “large” or “female” or “young.” In response to Mr. Crocker posting this photo, Erik Schut wrote, “Have a feeling when this comes out we at [TLA Video] are gonna move boatloads.”

Blatino Award Noms Announced Today

QFest Dubs Brent Corrigan a ‘Rising Star’

This past weekend, the Philadelphia LGBT film festival—a/k/a the 2011 QFest—held its annual panel devoted to all-male adult entertainment (scroll down or click the link below for details). Guest of honor Francois Sagat was a no-show (he apparently missed his flight due to illness). Anyway, there’s another bit of porn-related business from QFest that I overlooked. Mr. Sagat was all over the indie and queer film festival circuit last year with two films; this summer, it’s Brent Corrigan, whose real name is Sean Paul Lockhart, and QFest honored him with its 2011 Rising Star Award. “Fully at ease in front of the camera, Lockhart plays both dramatic and comedic roles comfortably and with conviction. Plus, he’s so damned drool-inducing to look at,” reads the pronouncement. “So for being someone from the gay adult industry making the move so successfully to the mainstream world—and still embracing his roots—we are pleased to present this year’s Rising Star award to Sean Paul Lockhart.” The honor was awarded early this month. Schedule Update: GayVNs on Showtime

Porn Awards: You’ve got three more chances to catch the 2010 GayVN Awards this week; it’s looking more and more likely it was the last hurrah for the venerable awards program. Anyway, it airs tonight on the flagship Showtime premium cable channel at 1:00 a.m.; tomorrow, July 19, at the perilous hour of 3:20 a.m. on Showtime Showcase; and Thursday, July 21, at midnight on Sho 2. Check your local listings before programming your DVR. Three more broadcasts are scheduled for next week. As I blogged earlier (see the link below), about ten categories are presented. Actor-comedian Alec Mapa performs yeoman’s duty to keep the show moving, while Sister Roma and Angel Benton offer color commentary and interview a panoply of skin studs (Mr. Benton gives a quick shout-out to GPTimes at one point). Appeals Court Certifies Ruling Against AHF

An appeals court has certified for publication its June 16 ruling in a case pitting AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) against the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health, notes trade publication XBIZ. Last month, the Second District Court of Appeals ruled that county health officials “do not need to require porn industry performers to wear condoms,” reports the Los Angeles Times. In doing so, the court upheld a 2009 ruling dismissing a lawsuit filed by AHF which found that “county officials had broad discretion over how they manage public health matters. The appeals court agreed, saying it could not compel the county health department to implement [AHF]‘s ‘agenda’ to combat sexually transmitted diseases.” The three-judge panel advised AHF to appeal directly to lawmakers “to change the laws and workplace regulations,” notes the Times.

Indie Film to Examine Stefano, Gay Porn ‘Brat Pack’

About four months ago, in late March, I had a chat with indie filmmaker Chad Darnell, who was making the rounds of GayPornLand conducting research for a biopic about the late Joey Stefano. As I wrote then, columnist and reviewer Mickey Skee as well as Sharon Kane, Chi Chi LaRue and Geoffrey Karen Dior are main characters. The whole group comprised a gay porn “rat pack” that tore up the biz from the late 1980s through the mid-’90s, and came to an end, more or less, with Stefano’s death from a drug overdose in November 1994. Among the actors currently attached are Missi Pyle as Ms. Kane, Willam Belli as Ms. Dior and Ryan O’Connor as Ms. LaRue. Topco, Titan Get Interactive with QR Codes

Press Release Roundup: Adult novelty manufacturers Topco Sales are touting QR Codes, a piece of tech that allows for certain mobile devices to link up to information about a particular product right away. Topco will incorporate QR Codes into their packaging by the end of the year—on products modeled after starlet Jayden Jaymes—for an “enhanced, toy-centric experience,” notes a company rep. It was invented by a Japanese automaker in 1994. Essentially you’ll be able to watch or listen, or both, as a performer purrs about the product or perhaps offers a quick demo. “The idea behind Topco’s QR Codes is that customized content completes the fantasy. [We] recognized the ways QR Codes and video could be combined to add value to toys, especially the celebrity molded pieces,” said Scott Tucker, Topco Sales President and CEO. “Technology has finally caught up with a vision we’ve had for a long time.” Although the initial focus is on straight-porn product, Topco does carry the Adam Male Toys, Chi Chi LaRue’s Rascal Toys, Dirk Yates and Michael Lucas After Hours brands. Berlin Hustlaball Awards Bacchanal Set for Oct.

The ninth annual bacchanalia is scheduled for Thursday, October 20 through Monday, Oct. 24.
