The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) is recommending a temporary shutdown for adult entertainment following unconfirmed reports that a performer has tested positive for HIV. The FSC recently launched APHSS, the Adult Production Health & Safety Services program, following the abrupt closure earlier this year of AIM Healthcare, the medical clinic that managed most of adult entertainment’s HIV and other STI testing. An FSC rep cites “a reliable industry source” about the new Patient Zero and notes they apparently did not use an APHSS testing facility. “This fact has limited the information gathered by FSC/APHSS and we can neither confirm nor deny specific facts,” the rep said. “Due to legal issues concerning patient privacy, we, as yet, are unable to implement exposure protocols and procedures.” As such, the group is recommending “an industry-wide moratorium on production” until certain details are confirmed and potential first- and second-generation exposures are identified. “FSC/APHSS cannot act on behalf of any testing facilities outside the APHSS system until we are requested to do so by the performer or any medical advisor authorized by the performer,” said the rep, adding the group has been in contact with “concerned parties” and has offered any assistance necessary. The group is also advising any performers with concerns to be tested ASAP. Industry publications AVN and XBIZ have echoed FSC’s call for a moratorium on production. so wouldnt you think the studios would WANT reliable, confirmable, and accurate testing? Wouldn’t a moratorium cost them money? Some of the excuses that come from studio bosses ring hollow when it comes to this subject. The rules should be very simple.

Must have reliable, accurate, and confirmable testing or no work.

Previous bareback performers cant work for condom studios.

And here would be the shocker….performers who are into escorting, drug use, and other high risk activities would be considered too high a risk to expose to other performers.

If the performers and studio bosses are going to run around and brag that they are stars and this is their “profession”…shouldn’t they ACT PROFESSIONAL?

Other PROFESSIONS have standards of conducts which seperate them from having a “job” as opposed to having a “profession”.

You would think that the first OBVIOUS standards of conduct would start with policies that ensure safety.

Sorry E Bourne – as in the past – this is most likely related to the straight porn industry.

Gay bareback studios each do their own thing regarding testing and Gay condom companies are practicing “safe sex” so they ignore the issue altogether.

This is the albatross that should be hung around Michael Weinstein’s neck. AHF forced AIM out of business, and the methodology that was working until that point failed when the resource was lost. How many performers will have to seroconvert before Weinstein is forced from having any influence on this industry?

@Jamie — I wonder the same thing. Weinstein’s AHF harassed AIM Healthcare into closing and the system, already in place, for identifying performers who test positive, quickly and efficiently, was lost. The FSC is doing their best, but the APHSS system only just launched last month.

Instead of focusing on research, educating, and hard reduction. Weinstein and AHF have become obsessed with forcing gay porn studios to use condoms and we all know that will fail bareback studios will move to other states or go underground. Like the war on drugs it will fail. This might be the first sign of how things would be if AHF has it’s way.

Do they make this much racket if it is a straight porn star who may have contracted something ? Or is this just porn worldwide with no exclusions ?
