Schedule Update: GayVNs on Showtime

Porn Awards: Early this morning was to be the final run of the 2010 GayVN Awards on Showtime and its various satellite channels, but now the cable network had added three more broadcasts: November 6, 14 and 30 on Showtime Showcase in the wee hours EST. Do check your local listings before programming your DVR and CLICK HERE for its page on Showtime’s website. The program is also now scheduled to run on-demand from October 10 through November 8. Obviously, this year’s Folsom St. Fair came and went in San Francisco with no awards ceremony for 2011; a little birdie told me the GayVNs might just be resurrected for next year. Let me ask: Does it matter to you at this point? Longtime Constant Readers recall I was employed by Studio 2000 for a couple of years where, among other duties, I worked as a director. Michael Lucas Op-Ed Tackles HIV Fear, Safer Sex

The latest op-ed penned by performer-mogul Michael Lucas for the Advocate.com website is titled, “Live in a World Where Everyone Has HIV.” In the piece, Mr. Lucas calls for a MYOB policy regarding HIV status when guys hook up—as long as they play safe and use a condom. “(W)hen it comes to sex, we should talk about it less,” he writes. “Don’t get me wrong. I understand that negative guys might get turned off when they hear that a hookup is HIV-positive. For most people, disease isn’t sexy. But there’s an easy solution to that problem: Just don’t talk about it. It might also ruin the mood if Mr. Right Now revealed that he had liver cancer, diabetes, sickle-cell anemia, or a family history of mental illness. But why would he tell you those things on a first date? And why would you ask?” He condemns “outdated ideas about HIV transmission” that lead to a culture of fear and prejudice in the gay community. If the relationship moves beyond the physical, he advises, please share your medical history. “Until then, it’s none of your business. Leave HIV status off your hookup checklists and Manhunt profiles and pre-sex chatter.
