Michael Lucas Adds HuffPo Columnist to Resume
October 12, 2011 | 1 Comment
Performer-mogul Michael Lucas has begun penning an op-ed column for the Huffington Post in addition to his recurring gig for Advocate.com. The debut column, in conjunction with National Coming Out Day, is titled “Why Gay Youth Need More Out Public Figures.” He talks about the plethora of openly gay and lesbian public figures and the effect of their presence in mainstream culture. Growing up in the 1980s in the deeply homophobic Soviet Union, he craved the validation that seeing such men and women would have provided. Today, he urges all LGBTs to come out. “Some people have no choice in the matter, at least at work: in many parts of the country, it is legal to fire someone for being gay. But it is embarrassing that many gay Americans still lie needlessly about themselves to their friends, coworkers and families,” he writes. “It’s shameful that older gay men and women who have been closeted all their lives continue being closeted out of inertia, and it’s sad that younger gay men and women create fake lives instead of embracing who they are.” CLICK HERE for the full essay.
