Fleshbot Puts Itself Up for Sale

Press Release Roundup: Smut site Fleshbot—with its all-male and hetero divisions—has put itself up for sale. “For the past eight years, Fleshbot has made its home at Gawker Media,” reads today’s announcement. “But as GM has grown, its sales strategy and technology platform have ceased to effectively support Fleshbot’s needs. We think someone else could be a much better partner to grow the site with us.” They described the site as “one of the only adult properties that manages to maintain a solid foothold in the mainstream world.” It’s a telling sign of the times that Gawker Media is dumping its racy properties. No replies?? That kind of says it all, doesn’t it?
In the past when ever a company like Gawker Media starts to dump their xxx assets it is normally a move that precedes a larger acquisition like when Gay.com dumped their gay porn sales off to another website or when Spec Pub tried to consolidate all their adult sites under Unzipped. It’s very likely a move on the part of Gawker Media to make their own site more attractive to a main stream buyer with advertising dollars that will not be associated with porn. The next announcement will likely be that a larger corp has purchased Gawker.
I agree that probably Gawker Media is looking at a sale but look how well it worked out for Here Media when they dumped all of their porn magazines and websites! They got rid of the only thing they had that was making any money or doing any serious traffic.
