red-ribbon-low-resToday is World AIDS Day. It’s become a tradition here to briefly suspend blogging for part of the day in remembrance of the male performers and other adult-biz members we’ve lost to AIDS and related causes over the past quarter-century. CLICK HERE to visit the World AIDS Day website for more information about ways you can stay aware and informed. As well, please consider donating a few coins to an HIV/AIDS service organization. Your financial assistance is more crucially important than ever in this Great Recession era of austerity. After the jump, a roll call of the 100 or so friends, performers, coworkers and others we’ve lost. CLICK HERE for their names…

The database of names is kept by the administrators of RAME.net. They have our gratitude.

Every effort is taken to make sure these names and dates are accurate, but mistakes do occur. Please leave a comment below if you spot any typos, errors or omissions.

You do this every year but it is always sobering and moving.

@Weldon — The story for years now has been that Gordon Grant died in the early ’90s, but as noted, there is some confusion about where/when. We’re happy to make any corrections or clarifications.

Worlds AIDS Day always makes me sad and tearful. So many names and why?

Just to clarify… although Craven Cox (aka Donny Price, aka Kyle Young, aka Real Name Plastered all over the ‘Net After He Died) was HIV+, he actually died of a drug overdose, not HIV/AIDS. Initial ‘net posts were accurate: “XXXX XXXX, known as Craven Cox, was found dead in his NYC apartment…” but then one blogger latched on to his HIV+ status and conflated the story into “Did bareback porn kill this young man?” Later blogs clarified the cause of death as a drug overdose, but the HIV/AIDS meme had already gone far past viral, and now the false story gets carried on 2 years after his still tragic death.
