Search for Grabbys Host Narrows

Porn Awards: The first round of online voting is now complete in the derby to determine which skin stud will co-host the 2012 Grabby Awards alongside Adam Killian and Tom Wolfe at the end of May in Chicago. The ten candidates are: Austin of AustinZane.com, Kirk Cummings, Jimmy Durano, Marc Dylan, Dean Flynn, Colby Keller, Trevor Knight, Spencer Reed, Scott Spears and Austin Wilde. Killian and Wolfe, and their co-host, will join dragstresses Chi Chi LaRue and Honey West, who will emcee for the 147th consecutive year. RIP: Sergio Real, Damon Audigier

Obits: I’m working on confirming details on the apparent passing of several performers. Michael Brandon and Will Clark conveyed the news that Sergio Real passed from liver cancer earlier this month in New York. Mr. Real was a tall, brawny and hirsute utility player with an active career throughout most of the previous decade. His early titles date back to 1998 and included sexpics for All Worlds Video, Catalina Video and Men of Odyssey, while in later years he filmed primarily for Bacchus Releasing, Hot Desert Knights and other smaller, boutique labels. He’s seen here, at left, on a 2001 DVD insert. CLICK HERE for a short remembrance from Mr. Clark. And then last night, word spread via Austin Wilde that Damon Audigier had died. Mr. Audigier has been active on the scene for several years with a handful of titles for Buckshot Productions, Jocks Studios and CitiBoyz. He’s pictured, left, on the CitiBoyz DVD insert here. My condolences to their families, friends and fans.

Beauty Shot: Dustin Zito Shows Off for MTV

Beauty Shot: Ex-webcam skin star Dustin Zito made waves last year when he was cast on MTV‘s venerable docu-series The Real World, where the revelation of his porn work was the most dramatic and buzzworthy event of the entire season. The handsome young stud is now extending his reality-TV career with a de rigueur appearance on the reality-competition series The Challenge. Beefcake for Lunch: Zeb Atlas

Over the weekend, I had the chance to chew the fat with musclebod-entrepreneur Zeb Atlas. Our lunch was arranged by talent manager David Forest of The Premiere Artists at the Polo Lounge inside the Beverly Hills Hotel, no less. Mr. Atlas is obviously quite a sight onscreen, but he’s one of those guys who is somehow handsomer in person. The Polo Lounge is very Hollywood, of course, and a few heads swiveled in his direction when he strolled by. Did they recognize him or were they reacting to his good looks? We chatted a bit about his cameo in the second-season finale of Gigolos on Showtime (see the link below). That episode garnered high ratings and producers told Mr. Atlas they’re exploring the idea of a male gigolo who services other men if they are renewed for a third season. Producers also definitely noticed the social-network buzz generated by Mr. Atlas’ appearance. In the meantime, he will be heading to San Francisco next week to film a couple of scenes for Raging Stallion Studios‘ next A-ticket sexpic. More details about that project down the line. And like Brent Everett, who tirelessly works a similar career track, Mr. Atlas is filming original content for his own website and touring around the country on dance/meet-and-greet gigs. Bravo Confirms Eklund in ‘Million Dollar’ Reality Series

Press Release Roundup: The Bravo cable network today announced a Wednesday, March 7 premiere date for its real-estate reality series Million Dollar Listing New York, and that Fredrik Eklund will be one of three featured cast members. Mr. Eklund is known to fans of all-male adult as Tag Eriksson, of course. The press release notes his spectacularly successful track record–Mr. Eklund is “constantly rated as downtown’s ‘Top Luxury Broker’ and was nominated as ‘Rookie of the Year’ by the Real Estate Board of New York. He set record sales in 28 buildings in Manhattan last year and is often spotted showing apartments to top name celebrities”–but doesn’t mention his many other accomplishments, including an acclaimed blue-movie stint. Eh, why would they mention the porn past? It was part of his glowing New York Times profile about 14 months ago (see the link below) and clearly hasn’t hurt him one whit. Music Video Clip Featuring Miklos Rejected by YouTube

Last week I posted about a lovely music video clip from Perfume Genius, a/k/a Mike Hadreas, that features musclebear Arpad Miklos (see the link below). Now comes word that a brief teaser for the video, meant to run as an advertisement before other videos, has been rejected by YouTube. Who knew soft-focus same-sex snuggling could be so dangerously provocative? Matador Records, the label for Perfume Genius, is puzzled that they weren’t given an opportunity to re-edit the clip. CLICK HERE to watch it. “The song’s about how if someone knew you, they would go away,” Mr. Hadreas has explained. He chose Miklos as a costar specifically “to battle preconceptions and show that even a hulking porn star can have feelings, too.” CLICK HERE for the actual video. It’s getting a lot of hype, thanks in large part to the gay-media-porn blogosphere coverage of Miklos’ participation; my original post last Friday remarked that the clip had racked up some 37,000 views. It’s up over 119,000 today.

Johnny Castle Wins AVN Awards Hardware

Press Release Roundup: Handsome hunk Johnny Castle took the gong for Unsung Male Performer of the Year on Saturday, January 21, at the 2012 AVN Awards in Las Vegas. Talent manager David Forest of The Premiere Artists circulated the news. As you know, Mr. Castle was Men magazine’s Man of the Year in 2008, one of the industry’s top honors back when such a thing as periodicals existed. He only wanked it solo in a variety of films for almost five years, 2004-2008 or ’09 or thereabouts, and has been working the straight side ever since. New Condoms Law Signed by Los Angeles Mayor

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has signed into law a new ordinance that ties film permits for adult shoots within city limits to the requirement that all actors on the shoots wear condoms. A fee attached to the permit is expected to pay for enforcement of the new law. Exempted are shoots on soundstages, which carry their own permits. Coverage of the issue in the Los Angeles Times has been overwhelmingly favorable towards AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the organization leading the efforts to legally mandate condom usage in porn. But an op-ed on the new L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson penned by Jim Newton and published Monday was less enthused. “In his first week,” he writes, “[Wesson] guided the council through a puerile debate over what to do with a citizens initiative to require porn actors to wear condoms. (Of all the troubles this country faces, it surely must amaze those looking at this city that this is what we concern ourselves with.) Wesson engineered a compromise that had the council approve the requirement by ordinance and avoid a costly ballot measure on the question. It’s not exactly an achievement that ranks with peace in our time, but at least it saves a bit of money and avoids a season of debate over ejaculation.” Stay tuned for updates.
