It’s with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to longtime porn-biz agent Dak King, and web pioneer Keith Griffith of Mr. King, also known for a time as Ethan Clarke, passed on August 26 from complications related to liver cancer. Although he worked behind the scenes in a variety of capacities, notably for director Michael Zen, Mr. King, 70, was best known as an agent. His Hot Rods Casting, based in Long Beach, supplied models for virtually every studio and website in the business. Just days before his passing, in fact, he was sending out his familiar casting alerts. He deserves a longer, more thorough remembrance, which I’ll have on the site later. There were no services, per his request; otherwise, he had long-established arrangements in place with the Neptune Society. As I wrote last week, Mr. Griffith was midway through a fundraising effort to pay for his hospice care following a return bout with cancer. His many friends and a large network of fans and supporters rallied to raise almost half of the money he needed, which provided an invaluable comfort during what were his final days. He finally succumbed on Sept. 18. Mr. Griffith, 53, was a pioneer in web filth; he had been online in one form or another since 1995 or ’96, and he set the template for today’s megabucks online hookup industry. They will be missed, and never forgotten.
