* In a new op-ed published on Advocate.com this week, Hobart Fowlkes writes movingly of a life-changing encounter with the late Arpad Miklos at a time when the author’s alcoholism and other addiction issues were spiraling out of control. “I didn’t know the man at all. I only met him those two times, but his words saved me, and for almost seven years I have been ashamed to give him credit. Why? Is it because he is a porn star? Or that I paid for sex? It’s probably for both of those reasons, however I can say for sure that humanity lost a beautiful soul last weekend,” he notes. “…I want people to know that although I am a person he most definitely would never have remembered, I owe my life to a man who despite having chosen an unorthodox path in his life, very probably touched a lot of souls along the way exactly as he touched mine.” [Advocate]
* Filmmaker mr. Pam and NakedSword Originals earned some blog buzz this week with a shoot that piggybacked on the City of San Francisco’s recently enacted ban on public nudity. “A location shoot, with the aid of extras, took place Sunday at Jane Warner Plaza,” notes SFist.com. “And one of the characters in the film is named Supervisor Scott Cox. (Get it?)” Dale Cooper takes on that role in a film to be titled—wait for it—THE COVER-UP. “(P)orn performers disrobed alongside volunteer extras and actual local naturists for a faux protest at the Plaza. Local nudist activist Gypsy Taub, naturally, plays herself. And there were also fictional counter-protesters, for the sake of the drama, with signs saying ‘Re-Elect Cox.’ And, since they had a legit permit from the city, all the nudity was condoned and legal.” Costars include Leo Forte, Derrick Hanson, JP Phoenix, Logan Stevens and Christian Wilde. What an excellent article Hobart Fowles wrote, and now is the time for his autobiography.
