Dept. of Self-Promotion: I’m quoted in a new article by fellow blogger Victor Hoff that’s just gone live on San Diego’s LGBT Weekly website. Titled “Putting the ‘Gay’ Back in Adult Video Award Shows,” the article examines the relevancy of gay porn awards in this bad, new recessionary world of sex tapes and tube sites. “The internet revolution was a force that was not only here to stay, but that would disrupt, dislodge and eventually displace everything we had come to expect from gay adult entertainment,” he writes. Five-Time Cybersocket Loser

Porn Awards: Well, the 12th annual Cybersocket Web Awards were handed out last night at The Factory nightclub in West Hollywood. And for the fifth consecutive year, GPTimes lost the Surfer’s Choice: Best Porn Blog category. This year, it went to Queer Me Now; previous winners were Jason Curious in 2011, QueerClick (twice, in 2010 and ’09) and Gay Porn Blog in ’08, the first year GPTimes was up for the citation. For the sake of completion, Gay Porn Blog also took the gong from 2005-07. The first category winner in 2004 was the now-defunct The Corky. We’ve been around 100 years, but GPTimes existed as a column–remember magazines?–for most of its first decade or so. A full list of this year’s Cybersocket winners hasn’t been revealed at post time, so look for that later. But congrats to Brent Everett, the deserving winner of Best Porn Star. Anthony Romero won Best Newcomer, while 3D BEL AMI took Best Movie and NakedSword snagged Best VOD Site.

Dept. of Self-Promotion: I had an on-camera interview yesterday for the pilot episode of HardTV, a forthcoming skin-biz entertainment program based in Toronto. My interviewer was none other than cutie Jeremy Feist, with whom I’ve had a digital relationship for several years but had never met in person. I don’t usually do on-camera stuff–gulp–but I don’t think I embarrassed myself. The very sexy camera crew was Ryan Russell and Jamie Cole, by the way. We dished my book Gay Porn Heroes, natch, and talked about sex and popular culture and the meaning of “porn star,” among other topics. Porn Awards: XBIZ, Cybersocket Kudos Next Week

Porn Awards: The post-holidays period is painfully slow in GayPornLand, but we’ll have some buzz and sexploits to talk about next week as the 10th annual XBIZ Awards and 11th annual Cybersocket Web Awards announce their winners. The XBIZ kudos are primarily focused on the straight biz, but they do have a handful of gay and trans categories. As I wrote in earlier posts, Titan Media has won Gay Studio of the Year honors four consecutive years and they’re up again this year, while Raging Stallion Studios has won Gay Movie of the Year the past three years–TO THE LAST MAN 1-2 and FOCUS/REFOCUS and BRUTAL–and they’re nommed again this year. The XBIZ kudos unspool next Tuesday, January 10, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The announcement firmly notes “formal attire strictly enforced.” Er, what exactly does that mean in the skin biz? In the meantime, the XBIZ Retail Expo runs Jan. 9-10, while the XBIZ LA conference concurrently unspools Jan. 9-11. And then we have the Cybersockets on Monday, Jan. 9, at The Factory nightclub in West Hollywood. As you know, GPTimes is up for its fifth consecutive gong as Surfer’s Choice: Best Porn Blog. GPTimes won the Grabby Award for Best Porn Blog last summer and snagged another Cybersocket Web Awards citation thanks to your many, many emails. You helped me sell a whole pile of Gay Porn Heroes-my first book!–and called in when I was on the radio, and left scores of comments to hundreds of daily posts.
