XBIZ Awards: Lucas and Titan, Adam Killian Win Big

Porn Awards: Winners of the 10th annual XBIZ Awards were finally unveiled last night. Amid the dozens of straight-biz kudos were a handful of gay categories. Titan Media kept its hot streak alive with a fifth consecutive win as Gay Studio of the Year. However, Lucas Entertainment snapped Raging Stallion‘s three-year winning streak by snagging Gay Movie of the Year for its erotic-noir sexpic ASSASSIN. And skin-biz veteran Adam Killian earned much-deserved honors as Gay Performer of the Year. Other winners: HotHouse.com for Gay Site of the Year; Chris Ward as Gay Director of the Year for THE OTHER SIDE OF ASPEN IV via Falcon Studios; and NakedSword for Gay Web Company of the Year, who won similar kudos at the Cybersocket Web Awards Monday night. Urban X Awards Honor Black Rayne Prods.

Porn Awards: The 4th annual Urban X Awards were handed out July 23 in Los Angeles. Their primary focus is hetero porn, but there are several T-girl and all-male categories. Mia Isabella won Transsexual Performer of the Year, echoing her XBIZ Awards win earlier this year, while performer-mogul Wendy Williams—a longtime friend of this site—earned the gong for Best Interracial Transsexual Site for HotWendyWilliams.com. Comedian Whitney Cummings and starlet Jesse Jane hosted a ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunset Blvd. Industry veteran Joe Gage won top directing honors for what may be the first time from any awards body, an unusual situation given his having helmed some of gay adult’s iconic films. Titan Media extended its winning streak to a fourth consecutive year as gay studio of the year, while Raging Stallion Studios snagged a third consecutive win as best gay video. The popular and prolific Spencer Reed won top performer honors, and several companies who took home Cybersocket Web Awards hardware earlier this week were also triumphant tonight. Last week, the AVN Awards announced its 37,463 nominations in 417 categories, including several in the trans-porn genre. We report on the nominees and eventual winners every year even though they are administered by AVN’s hetero awards. “LGBT” folk are lumped together in every way except porn awards; the “L” and “T” are considered straight-porn ventures. Buck Angel Immortalized in Bronze

I meant to write this up last week and overlooked it. My bad. Trans superstar Buck Angel has been immortalized in bronze by art world provocateur Marc Quinn. Buck Angel with Cigar, 2009 [pictured] will next be displayed in Mr. Quinn’s show in London’s Hoxton Square gallery in May. The statue has been making the art-world rounds, and was recently a part of the The Armory Show traveling exhibit in New York. “Seeing the self-proclaimed ‘Man with a Pussy,’ complete with tattoos, cigar and lady bits, made our evening,” wrote Next magazine. Mr. Angel was recently the guest of honor for the Master’s Tea series at Yale, and his photographic portrait hangs in the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. He was also name-checked in the recent Armistead Maupin novel Michael Tolliver Lives. We first wrote about the Quinn sculpture, which began with marble, way back in September ’08. Update: T-Girl Brittany CoxXx on the Mend

A few months ago we revealed that T-girl Brittany CoxXx had spent the summer and early autumn battling liver disease and hep-B. Of course, you will recall Ms. CoxXx is formerly known as robo-bottom Stonie; post-op, she made one adult film released in ’08 and then left the biz. Talent manager David Forest has stayed in touch with her and when several Constant Readers asked for an update, we rang up Mr. Forest. He reports that Ms. CoxXx is progressing rapidly with her recovery at home in Ft. Lauderdale. “The hepatitis is almost undetectable,” he said. “Doctors are amazed that her liver has responded so well to treatment. She sounds like a different person. She seems to be on the way to total recovery.” He notes Ms. CoxXx told him, “Baby, I just needed to clean up my act.” Good news, all around.

AVN Awards Crown T-Girl Kimber James

Press Release Roundup: The 2010 AVN Awards were handed out Saturday night in Las Vegas. As we blogged when the nominees were announced, Chi Chi LaRue earned a surprise nod in the best screenplay category for JENNA CONFIDENTIAL (which was shot some time ago and only released this year); for that film, Ms. Sharon Kane was a supporting actress nominee. They both lost. Anyway, as our Constant Readers are aware, the trans categories are awarded during the straight show. Ms. Kimber James was crowned best transsexual performer, taking over for reigning champ Wendy Williams. ROGUE ADVENTURES 33 (Joey Silvera/Evil Angel) took best transsexual release; the powerhouse series has dominated this category over the years, winning eight times. Best transsexual series went to AMERICA’S NEXT TOP TRANNY from Goodfellas/Devil’s Film.

Buck Angel Heads to ‘Sex Week at Yale’

I had a nice chat with Buck Angel recently. The director-performer-mogul and his eponymous label are up for several AVN Awards this weekend in Vegas, including transsexual performer of the year. He took that trophy in 2007, the first trans-man to do so. (It is an intriguing quirk of the adult industry that transsexual categories are considered “straight” and bisexual categories are relegated to the gays.) In addition, Mr. Angel will be a part of “Sex Week at Yale” next month and a guest of honor in their Master’s Teas series. “It makes me feel so honored that my work has got the attention of the professors at Yale,” he told me. “Totally crazy!” It’s not unprecedented, however; Michael Lucas was the guest of honor at a Master’s Tea in April ’05. Speaking of which, I was recently interviewed by a Yale newspaper for a story to run during Sex Week. Keep an eye peeled. Sex Week at Yale is “a student-run interdisciplinary sex education program designed to pique students’ interests through creative, interactive and exciting programming,” reads the press blurb. “Sex Week has rapidly become one of the nation’s most acclaimed college sex celebrations, garnering national and occasionally international media attention. Programming includes talks by the nation’s most widely known sex therapists, models, porn stars, writers, professors and executives in the entertainment and media industries.”

2010 XBIZ Awards Trans Nominees

Yesterday evening we posted the gay or GLBT XBIZ Awards nominees (scroll down to the previous story) and although the catch-all “GLBT Web Company of the Year” category does include one trans company — Grooby Productions — the adult-biz trade publication did expand their categories in recognition of a booming sub-genre in adult entertainment: Transsexual Performer of the Year and Transsexual Movie of the Year (some of the titles are hilarious; god, I miss humor in gay adult). Two friends of GPTimes — performer-moguls Buck Angel and Wendy Williams — earned dual noms. Congrats to them! [Edits 12/22/09.] AVN Media Network announced its 2010 AVN Awards nominees yesterday — the day before a long holiday weekend, natch — and among the 7,617 nominees in 1117 categories there are, as usual, several of interest to GayPornLand. Helmer Herve Bodilis, for example, snagged two noms for sexpics he directed for Marc Dorcel/Wicked Pictures. A couple of unexpected names popped up in the Hall of Fame categories: Cybersocket‘s Morgan Sommer and Tim Lutz were named to the Hall of Fame: Internet Founder’s Branch. And, lo! — Chi Chi LaRue snagged a surprise screenplay nomination for the Club Jenna blue movie JENNA CONFIDENTIAL. Buck Angel and the Kinsey Institute

Sex advice columnist and pundit Dan Savage recently toured the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University — he was there for its annual “Sexploration at IU” week — and took note of a certain portrait: “Finally I was taken on a tour of the institute’s gallery,” he blogs. “The Kinsey Institute has one of the world’s largest collections of erotic art and documentary photographs and right now there’s a large photograph of Buck Angel in the gallery, which was nice to see.
